Island of the Apprentices is a ritualistic performance series inspired of the island Umanaq in West Greenland. This historical site was in older Greenlandic cultural tradition used by apprentices who wished to become an angakkoq - a shaman. The apprentice went to the island in isolation for a period of time. Doing different ritual work, the apprentice obtained spirit helpers, who would help him/her to work as an angakkoq throughout his/hers life.

The work consists of a performance series and video installation from the island Umanaq in West Greenland.
